The course in detail

Second part of the progressive introduction to Jazz Guitar for the Intermediate Blues/Rock Guitarist. In part two of this course we complete the journey from 'straight' blues to jazz. Expert step-by-step guidance provided. All you have to do is follow the instructions on each video, and we'll show you, step by step, how to:

  • Play a great version of 'Summertime' with some chord substitutions that will prove popular with other jazz musicians for hours of jamming.

  • Play the melody of Summertime and use this to develop a simple improvised approach to soloing that will work over any tune.

  • Combine scales, chords and arpeggios with elements of melody to create professional sounding jazz soloes

  • Play through a chord sequence using arpeggio patterns to form a rock-solid basis to soloing directly over chord changes.

  • Develop arpeggio patterns to make cool sounding jazz licks that seem to fit the chords like a glove.

  • Learn to 'comp' using fingerstyle jazz technique

  • Gain some insight into simple swing rhythm playing

  • Learn a 'standard' jazz blues sequence that is used by jazz artists the world over as a jamming favourite
