  • Learn the underlying scale patterns behind each of these tunes

  • Then, using these patterns to inform your choice of notes to play, start developing your ability to play improvised solos that sound smart.

  • Learn to add rhythmic and melodic variation to your improvised solo lines.

  • Learn how you can use individual chords to help you select notes to improvise with that never fail to sound right!

Prerequisites and expected outcome...

Second part of a two-part course on how to play Jazz Guitar for Beginners. Continuing straight on from Part 1 - on a course that's for those who're sure they want to learn Jazz Guitar and don't mind the challenge of tackling the subject head on!

  • Prerequisites: Ideally you should have completed part 1 of the course before attempting part 2, unless you are already a fairly experienced guitar player with at least a basic ability to improvise.

  • Learn Jazz by learning to play the Standards. In this part of the course we continue a close look at each of three Jazz Standards with separate lessons on Comping, Melody and Improvising for each tune.

  • Progressive development. The tunes and their arrangements are specially selected to help you gradually expand your skills as well as broadening out your appreciation of different styles within the Jazz genre.

  • Hands-on approach... Again, we have kept it light on theoretical explanations and placed the emphasis on getting you playing first - plenty of time to get your questions answered later!

  • Get a great grounding in improvising approaches With each tune, we explore different approaches to improvising and show you how to use what you learn about the tune at the chord and melody level to help inform your choice of notes to use when soloing.

  • By the end of the course, you will have a solid foundation from which to launch into a more thorough study of the subject of Jazz Guitar, confident that you have a good grasp of the basics. You will have been made aware of a number of useful shortcuts you can learn to take when learning new Jazz tunes that will make the task many times easier and a lot more fun.

  • The video content is supported by printouts of rhythm charts, tab for melodies and diagrams explaining exercises and improvising ideas. These are yours to keep. Audio files are also included with specially made sample, backing and fronting tracks, specially recorded to go with the course.

  • Prompt, friendly support available if required. We do all we can in the design of these lessons to anticipate every question or problem that each individual student may have, but of course we know this is impossible.
