  • Play three of the most commonly used 12-bar blues chord sequences and appreciate how the chord changes relate to a typical blues lyric.

  • Play authentic sounding blues rhythms using Blues Shuffle Patterns

  • Add that special touch to your blues playing by using some great Blues Intro/Turnarounds

  • Play Blues Lead Lines using the Blues Scale patterns

  • Improvise your own Blues Solos using easy to learn blues scale patterns

  • Add colour and flair to your solos by using special techniques – bends, slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs

  • Turn scale-based notes into musically meaningful phrases by using a simple and fun trick we call ‘doodling’

  • Get to the bottom of exactly what makes a certain lick sound ‘Bluesy’

Learn to play songs

Once you have covered the technical work on this course we dive into a mini set of songs designed to show you how to apply blues technique to a broad variety of tunes including:

Prerequisites and expected outcome

No previous experience or special knowledge needed

  • The only requirement is to be able to read chord diagrams and tab and get a decent clean sound out of your guitar both on basic chord shapes and single notes. If you are a complete beginner then we would advise completing either the Beginner's Acoustic Guitar or Beginner's Electric Guitar Course before attacking this course.

  • This Course covers a broad range of building blocks that will enable you to develop a strong foundation of skills and knowledge on the subject of Blues Guitar. Whether your first love is Rock, Country, Jazz, Folk or Pop guitar - a working knowledge of Blues is an essential element to your development as a good guitarist.

  • This course is designed for both Electric and Acoustic guitar players but, just for the electric guitarist, there’s a section on how to set up your guitar and amp to get a really crunchy blues tone

  • By the time you get to the end of this course … …you will be able to play lead and rhythm across quite a range of blues styles and jam along with other musicians playing either lead or rhythm parts.

  • The video content is supported by printouts showing note by note tab of all riffs, solos, intros and chord sequences
